Rector Emlyn Butterfield and Director Anita Karlsen

Noroff University College is pleased to announce that Emlyn Butterfield has been appointed as the new Rector, effective January 2025.

Having spent six years at Noroff and previously serving as Head of Computing, Butterfield brings extensive experience in academic leadership, research supervision, and educational quality assurance – spanning both industry and academia.

– We are delighted to welcome Emlyn as our new Rector. His expertise makes him well-equipped to guide the university college into the future, says Noroff University College Managing Director, Anita Karlsen. – Throughout the recruitment process, we have come to know him as a knowledgeable, attentive, and generous leader, with a strong focus on students and academic quality.

Butterfield has served as Interim Rector since May 2024, following the departure of former Rector Beathe Due in July. He holds a strong background in digital forensics and cybersecurity, and his research and teaching philosophy emphasize student-centered learning, applied digital education, and industry collaboration.

– I am honored to continue working with our outstanding team, our highly satisfied students, and our thriving academic environment, Butterfield says. – I look forward to advancing the university college’s academic excellence and ensuring we offer the most relevant and up-to-date study programs.

Butterfield’s expertise will help Noroff University College maintain high academic standards while staying responsive to the evolving needs of students, faculty, and industry. His appointment reaffirms Noroff University College’s commitment to providing modern, practice-oriented education and fostering strong ties with the digital and tech sectors.

– With Emlyn at the helm, we are confident that Noroff University College will continue delivering excellent education aligned with industry demands, Karlsen concludes.

New Cybersecurity Programs

Reflecting Noroff’s mission to educate for the future, two new one-year programs – Assurance in Cybersecurity Management and Cybercrime Investigation and Response – have recently been launched. These specialized programs emphasize hands-on learning and are designed to equip students with critical skills in an increasingly vital field.
