Through a close collaboration between Noroff and Symetri, Technical Design students gain access to industry tools, specialist learning content, and expertise directly from the field. The partnership ensures that the programme stays relevant in a rapidly evolving industry.
The Industry as a Classroom
As an industry partner to Noroff, Symetri helps ensure that the Technical Design programme remains up-to-date and practice-oriented. Students not only gain access to professional software, but also to learning modules developed by Symetri’s own specialists in BIM and digital collaboration.
- As an industry partner, Symetri contributes to keeping the programme relevant and giving students insight into the tools and knowledge the industry depends on, explains Mads Lohne, Project Manager at Symetri.
- Noroff has a solid methodology for designing course modules and has provided us with close guidance throughout the process. This made it possible for several of our specialists to take an active role in developing the course materials.
The collaboration between Noroff and Symetri began with a shared goal: to create a programme that reflects real-world conditions in the technical design industry. Feedback from students has allowed continuous adjustments and improvements to the learning content, ensuring a steadily better learning experience.
A concrete example is that students learn to use Naviate Simplebim, a tool used to enrich and edit IFC files so that the BIM model delivers accurate output. Through practical assignments, students gain an understanding of how such tools are applied in real projects to secure higher data quality and improve cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Knowledge in Motion
Symetri sees its partnership with Noroff as both socially valuable and strategically important.
- Our customers operate in the same job market the students are entering. By collaborating with Noroff, we can share insights into needs, challenges, and trends, says Lohne.
- It’s valuable for the students, for our customers, and not least for us, as it allows us to help develop the competence of the future.
Lohne adds that participating in live webinars with the students has been a rewarding experience:
- It’s inspiring to meet the students and experience their enthusiasm firsthand. We would be happy to do even more of that, he says.
Shaping Tomorrow’s Problem-Solvers
The demand for candidates with cross-disciplinary technical understanding and strong design competence is growing, and this is where programmes like Technical Design play a key role.
- Technical designers are well positioned to act as drivers of change in the industry, says Lohne.
- By working smarter and more sustainably with up-to-date tools and methods, they help strengthen the competitiveness of Norwegian companies.
He also highlights that Noroff students gain a strong understanding of how ideas and needs can be realised through the right tools and workflows:
- Students learn digital work processes and collaboration in a way that prepares them well for managing modern projects and improving communication in cross-disciplinary teams, he says.
A Partnership of Great Value
Solveig Friberg, Program Manager for Technical Design at Noroff, highlights the importance of the collaboration:
- Partnerships like this allow us to offer an education that mirrors real working life. Students learn directly from specialists who deal with the same challenges they will encounter after graduation.
She adds that Symetri has been a highly engaged partner:
- They have contributed with both technology and content, but also with genuine enthusiasm for the students’ learning. It adds an academic depth that we greatly appreciate.
